Common Side Effects: headache, dizziness, breakthrough bleeding, nausea.
 
Less Common Side Effects: depression, drowsiness, migraine, high blood pressure, swelling, worsening of myopia or astigmatism, intolerance of contact lenses, eye bulging, double vision, vomiting, stomach cramps, bloating, poor appetite, changes in appetite, weight gain, inflammation of the pancreas, colitis, painful menstruation, no menstruation, erosion of the cervix, abnormal secretions, enlargement of uterine fibroids, vaginal yeast infection, gallbladder disease, yellow-tinged skin and eyes, high calcium levels in the blood, breast tenderness, enlargement, secretion.
 
Missed Dose: If one dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember, or take two tablets the next day and resume your regular schedule. Use an additional method of contraception for the remainder of the cycle. If you miss two consecutive doses, take two tablets daily for 2 days and then resume your regular schedule. Use an additional method of birth control for 7 days or for the remainder of the cycle (preferred). If two consecutive pills are missed in the third week, or if you miss three consecutive pills, contact your health care provider for dosing instructions.
 
Drug Interactions: Combining certain medications may alter their actions or produce unwanted effects. Tell your health care provider about other prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbs, and supplements you're taking, especially:
  • carbamazepine
  • corticosteroids (medications such as prednisone that reduce inflammation)
  • griseofulvin
  • penicillins
  • phenobarbital
  • phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • rifampin
  • sulfonamides
  • tamoxifen
  • tetracyclines.
