Drug: Zyloprim

allopurinol (pronounced ah-loh-PYOO-rin-al)

 
Common Side Effects:
 
Less Common Side Effects: drowsiness, headache, numbness or tingling in arms or legs, nerve inflammation, inflammation of veins, nosebleed, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, stomach irritation, change in or loss of taste, upset stomach, joint pain, bruising, fever, muscle weakness, chills, nasal boils, dry and scaly skin, hair loss.
 
Missed Dose: Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Don't double the dose.
 
Drug Interactions: Combining certain medications may alter their actions or produce unwanted effects. Tell your health care provider about other prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbs, and supplements you're taking, especially:
  • amoxicillin
  • ampicillin
  • anticoagulants (blood thinners)
  • chemotherapy
  • chlorpropamide
  • diazoxide
  • diuretics (water pills)
  • ethacrynic acid
  • mecamylamine
  • pyrazinamide
  • thiazide diuretics (water pills)
  • uricosuric agents (such as probenecid)
  • urine-acidifying agents (ammonium chloride, ascorbic acid, potassium or sodium phosphate)
  • xanthines.
