Drug: Aldactone

spironolactone (pronounced speer-on-oh-LAK-tone)

 
Common Side Effects:
 
Less Common Side Effects: headache, drowsiness, confusion, diarrhea, gastric bleeding, gastric ulcers, vomiting, inability to maintain erection, menstrual disturbances, dehydration, hives, acne, enlargement of breasts, increased growth of body hair, breast soreness.
 
Missed Dose: Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Don't double the dose.
 
Drug Interactions: Combining certain medications may alter their actions or produce unwanted effects. Tell your health care provider about other prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbs, and supplements you're taking, especially:
  • angiotensin-converting ezyme (ACE) inhibitors (medications that lower high blood pressure such as enalapril or lisinopril)
  • aspirin
  • digoxin
  • indomethacin
  • other potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills)
  • potassium supplements.
