Drug: Avandamet

rosiglitazone maleate and metformin hydrochloride (pronounced roh-sih-GLIH-tah-zohn MAL-ee-ayt and met-FOR-min high-droh-KLOR-ighd)

Common Side Effects: diarrhea, upper respiratory infection.

Less Common Side Effects: headache, fatigue, swelling, inflamed sinuses, back pain, joint pain, high or low glucose level, anemia.

Missed Dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Don't double the dose.

Drug Interactions: Combining certain medications may alter their actions or produce unwanted effects. Tell your health care provider about other prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbs, and supplements you're taking, especially:

calcium channel blockers (such as diltiazem, nifedipine, and verapamil)
corticosteroids (medications such as prednisone that reduce inflammation)
digoxin
diuretics (water pills)
estrogens
hormonal contraceptives
isoniazid
morphine
nicotinic acid
phenytoin (Dilantin)
thyroid products
procainamide
quinidine
quinine
ranitidine (Zantac)
trimethoprim
vancomycin (Vancocin).
