Drug: Ketek

telithromycin (pronounced tel-ith-roe-MIGH-sin)

 
Common Side Effects: diarrhea.
 
Less Common Side Effects: dizziness, headache, nausea, taste disturbance, visual disturbances, vomiting.
 
Missed Dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Don't take more than one dose (two tablets) in a 24-hour period. If you have questions, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
 
Drug Interactions: Combining certain medications may alter their actions or produce unwanted effects. Tell your health care provider about other prescription medications, nonprescription medications, herbs, and supplements you're taking, especially:
  • antiarrhythmics (such as quinidine, procainamide, and dofetilide)
  • antifungals (such as itraconazole and ketoconazole)
  • benzodiazepines (such as triazolam)
  • carbamazepine (Tegretol)
  • cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune)
  • digoxin (Lanoxin)
  • diuretics (water pills)
  • ergot alkaloid derivatives (such as dihydroergotamine and ergotamine)
  • medications that lower cholesterol (such as Lipitor and Mevacor)
  • metoprolol (Lopressor)
  • phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton)
  • phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • pimozide (Orap)
  • rifampin (Rifadin)
  • sirolimus (Rapamune)
  • tacrolimus (Prograf)
  • theophylline (Theolair, Theo-24)
  • warfarin (Coumadin)
